Director / Senior Director, Biology (Oncology)

Nimbus has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional oncology scientist with experience in drug discovery to join our team. The person in this role will take on a variety of responsibilities contributing to Nimbus’ current, ongoing projects and potential new targets including having an impact on project strategy (in partnership with the core team). The Director / Senior Director of Biology will report to our Head of Biology.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams on oncology related targets in a fast paced, results-driven biotech environment.
  • Design, implement, and execute biology and pharmacology objectives.
  • Provide scientific and managerial leadership to identify resources and to prioritize and manage in vitro to in vivo work in an entirely outsourced biology setting
  • Analyze, integrate, and communicate data and results in context to the project team.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with all levels, including to senior leadership and external partners.
  • Develop and lead initiatives that contribute to building the discovery pipeline and the discovery engine, including new target selection
  • Identify and build relationships and collaborations with suitable academic and industry collaborators

These Qualifications Will Help This Role Be Successful

  • PhD in Cell Biology/Molecular Biology/Pharmacology
  • 12+ years of relevant pharma/biotech drug discovery experience, with a strong record of direct contributions to driving oncology drug discovery projects from target validation to development candidate nomination
  • Deep oncology subject matter expertise, as evidenced by a record of external visibility (presentations, publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals)
  • Experience in forming and leading productive and effective multidisciplinary drug discovery project teams
  • Working knowledge of DMPK/ADME and a translational biology mindset
  • Ability to navigate, problem-solve, and execute in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, proficient at presentation to different audiences, including senior management
  • Experience in managing research in an externalized setting (CROs and academic collaborators)

Additional desired qualifications

  • Experience with translational biomarker discovery and development of clinically relevant assays
  • Experience in leading teams through IND into the clinic
